American Roulette
This refers to a Roulette wheel with both 0 and 00 pockets that is most commonly used in American casinos.
Biased Wheel Attack
This is a gambling strategy in which players look for a wheel that yields certain numbers more than others due to some error in construction, and then they bet on those numbers to turn a profit.
Called Bets
These are bets that cover a certain area of the wheel rather than the set bets on the board. Some examples are Voisins du Zero, Orphelins, and Tiers. These bets are not offered in all casinos.
Column Bet
A bet on a column of 12 numbers. For example, a bet on the 1st column covers the numbers 1, 4, 7...28, 31, and 34.
Corner Bet
This bet is also sometimes called a square bet. It covers the intersection of four numbers on the layout.
Dozen Bet
Like the column bet, the dozen bet is a bet on a set of 12. The Dozen Bet, however, bets on the numbers in order, so the 1st 12 bet covers the numbers 1 through 12, and so on.
En Prison
In many European casinos there is an en prison rule. This rule comes into effect when the player places an even money bet (high or low, even or odd, red or black) and the ball lands on 0. The bet is then said to be en prison (imprisoned) and if the bet is successful on the next spin, the player gets the bet back. Some variations just let the player take half their bet back when a 0 lands on an even money bet.
European Roulette
As opposed to American Roulette, this kind of wheel has only one zero and usually has some form of en prison rule.
Even or Odd Bet
This is an even money bet in which the player can bet on either all the odd numbers or all the even numbers.
Green Numbers
The numbers 0 and 00 have a green background, and are therefore called the green numbers.
High or Low Bet
This is another even money bet, in which the player can bet on numbers 1-18 or 19-36.
House Numbers
Another name for the numbers 0 and 00. These numbers get their name because they are how the house gets it edge. Without these numbers, roulette would be statistically fair.
Layout
The cloth on which bets are placed is called the layout.
Line Bet
Also called a “six line bet,” this is a bet on six numbers connected by a line on the layout.
Neighbors
The numbers next to a certain number on the wheel.
Orphelins
A called bet comprising two sections of the wheel with the numbers 1,20,14,31,9 and 17,34,6.
Red or Black Bet
An even money bet in which the player can bet on either the red or black numbers.
Split Bet
A bet on two numbers done by placing the chips on the line between them on the cloth.
Sucker’s Bet
On an American Roulette table, the bet that covers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3 has the worst odds of any bet in roulette, and is therefore called the Sucker’s Bet.
Straight Up Bet
A bet on a single number
Street Bet
A bet on three consecutive numbers in a row on the layout, such as 1, 2, 3.
Tiers
A called bet that covers one-third of the wheel opposite the zero. It covers the numbers 27,13,36,11,30,8,23,10,5,24,16, and 33.
Trio Bet
A bet placed on the intersection between two numbers and either 0 or 00.
Voisins du Zero
Meaning “Neighbors of Zero,” this is a called bet that covers the numbers surrounding zero on each side. The numbers covered are 22,18,29,7,28,12,35,3,26,0,32,15,19,4,21,2, and 25.
